Rise Training Academy is a Black and Filipina co-owned martial arts, dance, and fitness center in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Founded in 2017 by Contra Mestre Tinta Forte and Instructora De Boa, the academy offers culturally rooted movement programs for children and adults, combining physical training, artistic expression, and community connection.

Capoeira is at the heart of Rise Training Academy’s programming. This Afro-Brazilian martial art combines movement, music, rhythm, and self-defense. Classes introduce students to fundamental techniques, coordination, balance, traditional instruments, Portuguese-language songs, and the cultural history of capoeira. Separate programs are available for children and adults.

The academy also offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Samba, House Flow dance, Tai Chi, and strength and self-defense training. Its beginner-friendly classes welcome students with little or no previous experience, making it accessible to people interested in exploring martial arts, improving fitness, or learning new movement skills.

Rise Training Academy emphasizes the connection between physical activity and cultural education. Samba classes introduce Brazilian rhythms and dance techniques, while House Flow explores movement rooted in house music culture. Strength and self-defense sessions combine functional conditioning with practical techniques for improving awareness, mobility, and confidence.

Beyond regular classes, the academy offers capoeira demonstrations, school programs, workshops, and community events. Its training studio is also available to rent for dance rehearsals, fitness sessions, wellness workshops, and other movement-based activities.

Community investment is central to the organization’s mission. Rise partners with local businesses and organizations, hires neighborhood instructors, and hosts free family-friendly events supporting health, wellness, and cultural connection.
