About this Business
Buttercup is a Black-owned café and cocktail bar in Chicago’s South Loop. Former Chicago Bears player Israel Idonije created the concept with the team behind Oliver’s. The intimate 40-seat space draws inspiration from Northern Italian café culture.
By day, Buttercup serves espresso, coffee, matcha, and pastries. The relaxed café offers a neighborhood spot for morning coffee, conversation, or getting some work done.
At night, Buttercup transforms into an Italian-inspired cocktail bar. Amaro takes center stage. The bar features more than 250 bottles, giving guests a chance to explore the traditional Italian liqueur in many forms. The cocktail menu pairs with Italian-inspired food and small plates.
Buttercup also hosts cocktail classes and special events. Guests can learn mixology techniques or stop by for music-focused gatherings and other experiences.
Located on East 16th Street, Buttercup brings two experiences together in one South Loop space. Stop in during the day for coffee and matcha. Return at night for cocktails, amaro, and Italian-inspired food.
