Brown Sugar Bakery is a Black-owned bakery in Chicago’s Greater Grand Crossing community. Stephanie Hart opened the bakery on 75th Street in 2004. She built the business around family recipes and classic Southern desserts. Today, Brown Sugar Bakery is a longtime South Side destination for cakes and sweets.

The bakery is best known for its signature caramel cake. Customers can also choose German chocolate, red velvet, lemon, yellow chocolate, pineapple coconut, and other cake flavors. The Obama Cake combines layers of red velvet, chocolate, and yellow cake.

Brown Sugar Bakery also makes cupcakes, pies, cobblers, banana pudding, and candy. Customers can buy whole cakes or pick up cake slices and variety packs. Custom cakes are available for birthdays and other celebrations.
