About this Business
Demera Ethiopian Restaurant is a Black-owned Ethiopian restaurant in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood serving traditional cuisine inspired by the flavors and hospitality of Ethiopia. Opened in 2007 by Chef and Owner Tigist Reda, Demera prepares its dishes with fresh, authentic ingredients and recipes influenced by the cooking traditions Reda learned growing up in Ethiopia.
The menu features classic Ethiopian dishes such as doro wot, kitfo, siga wot, lamb tibs, misir wot, shiro, and gomen, along with sambussas and freshly prepared injera. Vegetarian and vegan diners can choose from an extensive selection of lentil, vegetable, mushroom, and split pea dishes.
Demera is especially known for its messob platters, which allow guests to share several meat and vegetable dishes family-style with injera. The restaurant also serves traditional Ethiopian coffee, house-made tej honey wine, African beers, wine, and cocktails featuring Ethiopian-inspired ingredients and spices.
Located on Broadway in Uptown, Demera Restaurant offers an approachable way to experience Ethiopian food and communal dining in Chicago. Catering is also available for weddings, celebrations, corporate gatherings, and other events.
