Built for movement.
Rooted in community
Kinetic Market is building a better way to discover, support, and connect with Black-owned businesses—starting right here in Chicago.
Why Kinetic Market Exists
Growing up, I saw the power of community economics all around me.
I saw communities build networks where businesses didn’t simply serve customers. They created jobs, supported other businesses, shared resources, and created opportunities for people within their communities.
You can see the power of that model throughout Chicago. Chinatown is one example. Its businesses are deeply connected to the community that built them, yet their reach extends far beyond it. Chicagoans from across the city come to eat, shop, celebrate, and experience the neighborhood.
That taught me something important: a strong community business ecosystem doesn’t have to be exclusive to be rooted in community.
I also grew up in Black neighborhoods where plenty of money was being spent, but the economic benefits of that spending didn’t always remain connected to the people who lived there. A business can operate in a community without its ownership, employment, suppliers, profits, or opportunities being rooted there.
Those experiences stayed with me.
Years later, I wanted to organize a Black business fair. I needed more than vendors selling products. I needed the businesses that make an event possible—venues, event planners, materials, services, and other infrastructure.
Finding them was much harder than it should have been.
Not because those businesses weren’t out there.
The infrastructure connecting us to them wasn’t.
That’s the problem Kinetic Market was created to help solve.
Kinetic Market isn’t built on the belief that Black businesses need to be saved. Black entrepreneurs are already building, employing, creating, innovating, serving communities, and generating opportunity.
We’re building infrastructure that makes that economy easier to see, access, connect with, and participate in.
What we’re building
Three principles guide the platform we’re building today—and where it goes tomorrow.
01
Discovery
Being listed isn’t the same as being discoverable.
Finding the right Black-owned business shouldn’t depend on already knowing its name or stumbling across it on social media. Discovery means helping people find what they need, where they need it—from a neighborhood coffee shop to the businesses and professionals behind an entire event.
Kinetic Market is designed around how people actually search: by location, category, service, specialty, and interest.
02
Trust
A directory is only as useful as the information inside it.
When we say a business is Black-owned, that should mean something. That’s why ownership verification has been part of Kinetic Market from the beginning.
Trust also means keeping the market useful. Businesses move, change, grow, and sometimes close. We’re committed to maintaining a directory that feels current, cared for, and worth coming back to.
03
Momentum
Finding a business is the starting point, not the finish line.
Discovery creates an opportunity to act. A purchase creates revenue. A review helps the next customer. A referral creates another connection. A contract can fuel growth. A hire creates a job. A partnership can open an entirely new door.
One action creates the possibility of another. That’s momentum.

Market
The name Kinetic Market carries the idea behind what we’re building.
Kin is connection.
It’s community. It’s the relationships between people, businesses, neighborhoods, organizations, and the ways we support and create opportunities for one another.
Kinetic is motion.
It’s energy, growth, circulation, and momentum.
Money moves. Customers move. Referrals move. Resources move. Jobs and opportunities move.
Together, Kin + Kinetic represent our vision of a Black business economy that’s connected, growing, circulating, and always moving forward.
The Mission
Make Black-owned businesses easier to find, easier to support, and harder to overlook.
Kinetic Market exists to increase the visibility of Black-owned businesses, make intentional spending easier, and create stronger connections between businesses and the people looking for what they provide.
And that invitation isn’t limited to Black consumers.
A thriving Black business economy benefits from customers, organizations, employers, partners, and supporters from every community.
Supporting Black-owned businesses isn’t charity.
It’s commerce. It’s connection. And it’s an investment in a more dynamic local economy.
The Vision →
Today’s connections can create tomorrow’s opportunities.

NONPROFITS ←────────→ COMMUNITY
The vision isn’t simply a bigger directory. It’s a more connected Black business economy.
Be a part of what we’re building
A stronger network doesn’t happen because a directory exists. It happens when people use it.
Search for a business. Shop there. Hire them. Leave a review. Recommend them to someone else. Tell us about a business we’re missing. If you’re a business owner, make sure people can find you.
Every connection creates another opportunity for momentum.
